Why a Network?

Our Vision

We aim to strengthen the field of Embodied Jewish Wisdom. As a collective, our guides, leaders and students are furthering a model for Jewish life where embodied spiritual practice is the norm, not the exception. More than anything, our mission is to further wholeness, individually and collectively. We are here to elevate embodiment as an essential part of who we are – Jewishly & beyond.

Why a Network?

Many of our members have practiced & pioneered embodied spiritual practice in their Jewish communities in isolation and for years - unaware of a wider community of support. At the Network, we come together to create a thriving and resourced global community of embodied Jewish leaders. Our online gatherings connect and strengthen us, elevating our studies and personal practice. Between meetings, we share resources & events, engage in real-time conversations and build community. Together we deepen our shared knowledge, generate inspiration and strengthen the wider field of Embodied Jewish Wisdom.

Who are we?

The EJW Network is hosted and created by Embodied Jewish Learning, with guidance from our EJW Leadership team. EJL (founded by Julie Emden) offers teacher trainings and online learning to provide educators and teachers with best practices for integrating Jewish wisdom into their classes and we offer podcasts, classes, workshops and retreats to provide spiritual seekers, yogis, and dancers a unique way to access Jewish wisdom that is meaningful and relevant to their everyday lives.

Every time I join an EJL call, I walk away feeling spiritually connected, centered, and refreshed. There is no community like this in my geographic area, and I am often seen as the “woo-woo” person on staff at my synagogue. Others humor me, but don’t seem to fully understand the deep spiritual benefits of connecting movement with prayer, singing, and community. It is so energizing to connect with this community and be able to be fully present without concerns of being judged or critiqued. As a learner, I feel safe participating and sharing, and as an educator, I feel enriched by the vast collection of knowledge the network members bring forth. I have encountered Jewish ritual, text, song, and interpretations that might never have entered my field of view if not for these gatherings.

“All of my experiences at the monthly gatherings this year have enriched my teaching and writing with inspiration and wisdom. I am excited by my personal growth in understanding my heritage, further kindling my love of Judaism. I love meeting people from all over the world who are strengthening Judaism through experiences of embodied Jewish learning.”

“Being engaged with the Embodied Jewish Wisdom Network is truly a blessing. EJW provides me with support, innovation, collegiality, and a rootedness within ancient Jewish Wisdom. The collective Kavanah I feel emerging is to honor the Spiritual Path of Judaism while discovering pathways that authentically embody its transformative power.”
— Scott Shalom Green, EJW Network Founding Member

“As practitioners of Embodied Jewish Wisdom, we understand the essential nature and value of learning beyond the limits of mental intelligence alone. Every day, we choose to be facilitators of healing through varied modalities in order to take that deep, deep, visceral understanding with us as we move through the world. Our Network is as vital as your next breath if you serve as a teacher of this holy work.”
— Laura Hegfield, Practitioner & Teacher of Jewish Mindfulness Meditation, Sacred Chant-Song, EJW Network Founding Member

When We Meet

Join us for monthly Community Gatherings & Quarterly Advanced Learning Series!

Community Gatherings:
once per month

In these gatherings, we come together for embodied practice and to experience one another’s leadership. We share teaching gems for the current season, capture any new themes or methods that as leaders and guides we have found to be especially inspiring or useful for our students. Each session is led by a few members of the collective and includes time for gathering in smaller groups to deepen our connection over time. Recordings are posted within one week.

Advanced Learning Series

In these Advanced Learning series, we will spend time in movement and study with experienced teachers of embodiment in Jewish contexts from around the world. Movement modalities include Alexander Technique, Authentic Movement, Body-Mind Centering, Dance, Qi Gong, Somatic Experiencing, Yoga, and more! Each session is led by one or two instructors. Time is allotted for reflection and questions about class structure and methodology.
